Our Focus

Advocating for the Rio Grande Valley

The Rio Grande Valley is home to a vibrant, rapidly growing community. However, it also faces significant health disparities. Our population experiences a higher prevalence of diabetes, hypertension, and obesity—all major risk factors for stroke.

Historically, patients had to travel hundreds of miles to receive specialized neurological care. SREF was established to change this narrative. By funding local research, supporting our medical students with scholarships, and bringing national experts to our annual symposium, we are building a self-sustaining ecosystem of top-tier healthcare right here at home.
